Project "MicroMilk" (01.11.2010 - 31.10.2012)
The objectives of the projects were:
- Create an electro-thermal model of microwave cavity to enable controlled and uniform heating
- Design, simulate, optimize and develop a demo-system at 60 l/h
- Enhance the microbiological, nutritional and organoleptic quality and the shelf life of milk
- Reduce the cleaning time and minimise the contamination sources of milk via equipment
- Full HACCP and GMP compliance
- Decrease cost of milk treatment from €1,200/tonne with state of the art systems to less than €1,000/tonne
Project "MicroMilk-Demo" (01.09.2013 - 31.08.2015)
The MicroMilk project funded by the R4SME programme delivered high quality science and technology development. A novel continuous microwave milk pasteurization system was successfully developed and validated. An industrial scale unit has been designed and specified. The necessary further demonstration of the developed technology at industrial sites to confirm its long-term performance, operational costs and economic viability is being undertaken in the current demonstration project (Grant Agreement No. 606 321). The consortium has already identified a number of market opportunities and is keen to bring this development into an industrial stage.
